+ Before you call:

It’s often difficult to know where to start with your new deck or extension. It’s difficult to know how much of your project a decking company is actually able to do. At Qld Deck Co. we are registered (and very capable!) builders. This means that we construct stairs and roofs and we can install doors and windows etc to compliment your deck. We are able to look after your project from start to finish including quoting, plans, certification and BSA insurance (these items are all included in our quotes).

Before you call it’s important to take some time to envisage your complete project. Here are a few things to consider:

  • Think about the layout of your deck. Is it going to be practical and will it add value to your home and living space? It helps us a lot if you get the tape measure out and come up with a few ideas before calling us. From there we can help you develop your own ideas. A typical deck is about 20sqm to 30sqm, which is a good living area.
  • Decide on your budget. It’s easier for us to work to your budget than for you to try to fit as much of your project into your budget as possible. If you have a think about the size of your deck and measure roughly how high it will be off the ground, this can sometimes help us give you a fairly accurate quote over the phone. This way you will know whether your basic plan is going to be within your budget or not. Naturally, prices do vary greatly from project to project depending on height, size, shape, materials, site access etc. We try to give as much information over the phone as possible.
  • Think about quality of the deck you are looking for. Is this a temporary construction? How much will you use it and for how long? At Qld Deck Co. we use only the best materials available. Typically, our decks are constructed of treated hardwood and select premium grade Australian species decking (unless otherwise specified). We only pilot drill then hand-nail our decking boards down and we do not use nail guns. We try to ensure that all of our decks are of the highest quality.
  • Look at plenty of photos. You can get some great ideas by looking at lots of photos and we have plenty available on our website. You can combine the balustrade from one deck with the roof of another deck to create the perfect solution for your project. If you have some ideas, mention these over the phone so that we can investigate some costs for you before we meet with you.
  • Decide whether or not you have a timeframe. The process of getting a written quote, getting plans drawn up and then getting your plans certified (if necessary) can take anywhere from a few weeks to 2 months+. Certification can sometimes be a long process due to reasons beyond our control. If you are looking at getting a deck done before Christmas, you are best off calling a few months earlier as most people are booked in by September for their December projects.

We would love to invest some of our time into you and your project. We would like our potential clients to understand that quoting is often a long process. The time it takes to meet with you on site and write your quote up can accumulate to over half a day’s work. We thank you in advance for taking the time to read over all of this information before calling us and meeting us on site.
